According to the trade body’s latest financial outlook for the global airline industry, cargo volumes are expected to reach 71.7m tonnes in 2026, up 0.2% year on year.
This is in contrast to IATA’s prediction at its World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in March that air cargo growth would stabilise at 2.6% this year, although this was measured by cargo tonne km (CTK) as opposed to tonnes.
In March, just after the Middle East conflict started, there was a 4.8% year on year decrease in air cargo demand, measured by CTK.
